Thread: Has anyone tried one of these - Bluetooth OBD-II

my ford fixing mate bourt one and thinks its ok, works on most of the coons but focus its no go, i havent tryed it on rovers yet, but id like one,, there cheap and could posibully save time

he only got the free app on his phone aswell so there mite be a few extras you get if you payed for the full app

I have tried one on my Puma. Not all the functions worked but the majority did. Biggest issue may be where it needs to sit. The CAN (?) socket is in the fuse box that is under the dash below the steering wheel. It may be easy to foul the OBD dongle fitted in this position. You certainly couldn't close the fuse box lid. The blue tooth connection to my mates BlueTooth Android tablet worked fine. The app was Torque if I remember corrrectly.

I have both the dealer extreme dongle and the hand-held unit. Both work fine for what I need them for and that is - being able to diagnose a DTC out in the bush so I know what is wrong once I get back to civilisation and.....have the ability to clear fault codes rather than drive for long distances with flashing MIL lights on the dash

I have the dongle paired to my iPhone and use the 'Dash Commander' app which at $52 is a bit hefty compared to the Android 'Torque' app which is only $4.50

The iPhone app is very good and gives me a broad range of 'real-time' engine parameters while on the go however, I have viewed and used the Android app as a comparison and know that it has more features than the Apple product.

My only small hassle was chasing up the dongle from Dealer Extreme. The hand held unit arrived in a flash but for some reason, the dongle took a few weeks....no reason given

Anyhow - I am more than pleased with the performance of both units and being able to monitor the engine on my iPhone all for under $120.
I acknowledge that a Nanocom Evolution will drill down further into the diagnostic system as well as access BCU, SLABS etc....but at $400+ I'm happy with what I've got 9Plus the Nanocom site gives a print-out of all of the fault codes )

Thanks, I actualy ordered it off eBAY as it was $44 with free delivery so was a bit cheaper than dealtime, but it may not come at all, I got an email from ebay this morning about a a micro sd card I bought from another supplier, they told me that they had removed the listing and if I had allready paid then raise a case with paypal, I guess it pays to not pay immediatley sometimes, hopefully the dongle is different, will be happy with it if it given your comments, and with the app and dongle under $50 I will be happier.

I bought one of the cheap bluetooth ODBII' s on Ebay $20 and the Torque Android app for my Galaxy Tab $4.50. Works real well on my D3 but there is not much available for D2, so Nanocom is the best for that. On the D3 the ODB connector is downward so when the bluetooth ODB is plugged in it sticks down a bit. Might need to find an ODB extender cable.

I use the same as above except on my Android phone.

It's saved me a bucketload of money because of the real time coolant temp monitor.

Picked up an overheating problem quick smart so I was able to get viscous fan & radiator rodded.

Mine has not arrived yet, still waiting, but when I get it I am going to see if I can dismantle it and wire in a ribbon cable somehow to enable it to fit under the closed fuse box lid in the puma.
