    OBDII plug pin-out for P38

I am getting some oddness with the OBDII plug on my 1999 model P38.

FaultMate works fine, EAS Unlock Cable works fine, EAS Buddy and EAS Kicker lite work fine.

Nanocom Evo 2 does not power up on mine, but works just fine ok on my wife's 2000 model P38.

I found a schematic for the plug on RAVE, but no further description of what wire does what.

Pin 4 is black, so I am guessing this is earth.
Pin 16 is brown, and I recall this is +12V.

Pins 1, 5, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 are a variety of colours. While the techo in me would like to know what they do out of curiosity, I suspect the issue is earth related.

I have not yet put a multimeter on the pins to check, partly due to being a bit worried I might hurt something if I earth a pin I shouldn't.

    Thanks for any help.

    Cheers, Paul.

    Hi Paul,

I realise you posted this a month or so ago now but did you find out what was going on with the nanocom evolution 2? Ive just had something similar with mine (on my 1998 P38 diesel) - first time i plugged it in the evolution worked fine. Next time, no power plus i got persistent ABS warnings until i removed the evolution and recycled the ignition. With external power it seems to work fine. Very odd. Any help much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Mike

Ok BBS answered my query. And i do suppose i should have thought of it: It was the fuse (5A no 33). Not sure why it blew but hopefully it wont blow again.

Sorry, only just saw your post.

My problem was just a dodgy power pin connection on the car-side OBDII plug. Easy fix.

Glad to hear you got yours sorted.

    Cheers, Paul.
