Faultmate FCR, just a small review...
Hello.
Having recently bought an FCR (faulmate), I share with you my (modest) experience
on my D3)
WOW, very fast, all modules are in alphabetical order (ABS, AIRBAG, etc ...), find the suspect unit is a breeze.
Only three buttons, a "validation" and two for scrolling to read on the screen (top and bottom)
Scroll to where you want to read ... choose "reading defects" validating.
If defects exist, they appear as a fault code.
Click on the code and description scrolls. It's so easy .just need to click to clear the fault (if it can be deleted .. or once you have fixed the problem)
The FCR is tiny .. and can easily be kept in the car for times of emergency.
It has a connector at one end to plug into the diagnostic port in the D3 (OBD2) and a small USB connector to another for future updates / software changes, etc.. ....... ....
Congratulations to the designers ............

Hiya Marco110
Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion and experience on the Forum.
There are now so many cheap Fault code tools around that use clever wording to make it seem that they offer so much more than they really do, and yet always disappoint. So we really do rely upon those that see and recognize what a great bit of kit it is to help us spread the word.
I actually do not think i have ever read a better review.
I am honestly not saying that because it is complimentary, but because it is so spot on in respect of all detail.
Here are a few technical details you may not know about the FCR.
Once plugged in and getting power, the FCR actually waits half a second to give time for the connector to be fully inserted, thus ensuring the data connection will not be accessed while the plug is still being connected.
It then attempts communications with a number of different ECU's and logically deduces what vehicle model it is connected to, Validates the VIN and the License of the unit then goes and fetches the respective ECU menu list and displays it. This takes only about one and a half seconds more.
The ECU list is absolutely every single ECU possible to have fitted to the model, on High Low and even the Fibre optic Most Bus, including even options applicable only to some countries are listed.
When a fault code read from any ECU is translated to text, it is done by an encrypted look up table of absolutely all Ford fault codes, as used by any and every model they produce and amounting to many thousands of possibilities, including even Hybrid Engine related codes.
We actually produced one with all of Ford's own Model Vehicles, which we lent to a dealership and was used all day and every day on just about every model you can imagine for almost a year during which it performed absolutely flawlessly.
To date we have supplied many hundreds of FCR's without a single complaint from any buyer. No unknown fault codes, no ECU access iffyness. It just does what it says it does in the blink of an eye.
Although the FCR is locked to one VIN, this can be changed to a different VIN at a very low cost remotely, ie without the unit needing to come back to us.
So while we truly thank you for your congratulations, we also offer you ours on making such a wise investment.
And i use the word investment for good reason, as the unit has such a reputation and demand, and can be re licensed at such a low cost, that if ever you decide to part with yours, you certainly won't struggle to find someone willing to give you most of your investment back.
In the meantime, not only will the FCR save you money and let you keep an eye on your vehicles health, but it will certainly give you invaluable peace of mind whenever you go out in the vehicle just knowing it is there in case of an emergency.
