Faultmate servers can be unlocked and reassigned or opened up to be MVS and do multiple vehicles.
The Faultmate is much quicker too, better data acquisition and won't brick ECUs ;)
The Faultmate MVS is what I run with everything from RRC thru D4 on mine.
Mind you the modules cost much more for MVS but I was using it for work as well.
Evo2 is more an enthusiast tool.

I've found from reading and owning a Nanocom that the only thing missing from it is cruise control.
Their rationale is if you want it buy a Faultmate but for the price difference and the fact that it's in the nano and enabled for P38 why can we D2 users not have it, even for a $50- update but they are stubborn bastards. I've actually phoned and badgered them on it.
Will be very interested to hear what you decide Simon. I know you always put a lot of thought and research into your choices whereas I tend to close my eyes and point to make my pick.
I will want to get a system before I go to Cape York in June so I will go with whatever you choose.
It is hard trying to discern the difference between the 2 units. I can see that there is about a $250 difference in price but if the only real difference is that the Faultmate is quicker then I can wait a little bit longer for data.
However I have no idea what "bricking" is although it doesnt sound good. It's not when you turn your edu/bcu into something which is only any good as a brick is it?
I've had a Faultmate for 6 yrs... I reckon it's saved its cost a couple of times over...even more considering that an accurate diagnosis stopped me spending mega bucks on new parts for the wrong problem! :eek:
Recently did a complete top end overhaul so was able to reset EMS adaptive values, clear HEVAC problems etc. I probably only need to use it once or twice a year now... when P38s are properly serviced and bug free they suddenly become very reliable:eek::D I don't know enough about Nanocom etc ...if/when I upgrade I'll simply pay the man the relatively nominal fee and get the code for the new VIN. All the necessary diagnostic stuff (modules) are already in the black box... just need the licence code to switch them on.
Hey Adam, I'll go the Nanocom Evo. I think the biggest differences as far as I can see are that the faultmate is suited to the later type land rovers and the Evo the earlier ones. The disco2 seems to be compatible with both, it's in the cusp between them both. What drives me away from the faultmate is the cost and that it's VIN locked, so can only be used on one vehicle unless you presumably cough up some more money. The ECU bricking seems to relate to the ECU failing to communicate when rewriting, not an issue for me as I have a non flash ECU, but even so there has been an update to hopefully sort that problem.
I'm not sure if you know, but there is also an AULRO discount direct from BBS.
Thanks Simon. I will do the same then. You say you have a non flash ECU. Is that because yours is special or do all early D2 have this?
That's ok. It's an early D2 thing at least for the TD5, I'm not sure what the implications are for the V8 in terms of ECU upgrades, and for you it still may make no difference also re bricking the ECU. I think they went to flashable ECUs sometime around 2002 when they discos became eu2? Eu3?? compliant but I don't know if the td5 and v8 ECUs are similar in construction or totally different.

Bricking usually happens when there's a stable power supply issue with the nanocom, so they do advise that it's connected to an external power source.
If you want to upgrade a D2V8 there's only one option and it's not nanocom. They are well and truly secured.
