Have a play with the turbo pressure

If you take it up to 1.30 by adjusting the rod it may help you with your EGTs
I presume you have a larger intercooler
In a recent run to Geraldton the max EGT I got was about 530 and that was going up hill under load but it does have a VNT

that seems just wrong to me, you would think more air = less EGT .

Also dropping back to 4th WOT I can crest the hill at 96 kmh but EGT about 710 deg, which also seems wrong, everything says that dropping back will lower EGT's, would be really nice if Naoncom could log EGT's
The comparison got bumped across to Tech Chatter, as I think it's of pretty general interest.

Thanks Duane, yes I've got the Allisport intercooler now, I screwed the wastegate rod adjuster in 3 full turns, its peaked at just over 1.3 boost with no sign of surging, the EGT is 10 deg cooler on the same test run, but when attacking the hill at road speed it powers up at 105 in top now, but EGT's 705.

Ok so it was previously cresting the hill at 75 kmh and 656 degrees EGT
It now crests at 105 kmh with 705 degrees EGT
What happens to the EGT if you crest in 4th at 90 kmh or lift off a bit in 5th?

I was going foot flat to the floor just for testing, I don't normally drive like that, still go over at a respectable rate with 550 -600 , backing off a little instantly drops the temp 100 degrees.

bottom line is there is now way I can get the EGT's into the 800's , which was easy with the original Intercooler,

    An interesting observation. .......
all these little mods that you do to the Td5 do add up, at the time your not so sure because you quickly get used to the new performance level & its not long till this is the new 'normal'

When I got the Defender about 2 years ago I'd been used to driving my wifes Barina and the 1HZ 100 series, As far as acceleration and power to weight ratio Barina use to perform way better than the Toyota , and about on par with the Defender. I had to drive the Barina for the first time yesterday in 2 years, I could not believe how gutless it was, - fact was there was nothing wrong with it - I now cant believe how much better the Defender goes in comparison - and it uses about the same amount of fuel !!!

which made me realise, the 100 series when going up that hill was a struggle in 4th gear & with a trailer it was back to 3rd !!!

so perhaps it time to stop fiddling

I did a test over 29 minutes with the nano com, to be exact 1741 seconds, the csv file had 1788 lines which equates to 0.974 seconds per line. For me this is close enough to 1 second per line. My ECU is a NNN variety (i think).

    As for the EGT,

goingbush said "that seems just wrong to me, you would think more air = less EGT ."

Wouldn't more air flow mean more charge per cylinder, more air, more fuel, more bang, more EGT?

    Cheers
    Marc
