You get some basic reading such as revs and throttle position but that's it on my D2. I have one and useful to have in the car but not a full diagnostics tool nor will it do all the fancy dashboards. Probably more useful to help our non-landlie mates or those in d3s and later.

Depends what you want to do with it and what engine you have in the D2. If it's a Td5 you can read and clear engine faults but otherwise support is as per jakestride's post. V8 has much better OBD PID support as this engine was sold into the US so can use the custom dash features etc.

I have one which I bought from eBay for 20 bucks and torque pro for my 2012 deefer . Works well. Does engine fault codes, all the readouts you could want. Oil temp, coolant temp, distance to empty, fuel rail pressure and heaps more. It also does graphing and trip reports which you can upload to your pc. I'd suggest you borrow your friends one and plug it in to see what it is able to scan and go from there. I've used mine on a few buddies cars and it depends on how old the car is for the number of sensors it can read. Basically, if the car has a sensor connected to the ecu, it should be able to scan it and pick it up.

There is a massive difference between mandated OBD support in a 2012 built vehicle and a 2000 built diesel. Diesels were not required to support OBD-II protocols until 2005. A 2000 MY Td5 D2 has rudimentary OBD-II support at best and there is no support for any of the whiz bang features mentioned above.

Probably best thing to do, although the limitations of the D2 td5 OBD support are well known and documented. If all you want to do is check and clear codes you'll be fine. If you want real time data you won't have much joy.

The full extent of the Td5 D2 support is well documented.
What you get is the following, regardless of what year model:

    - Trouble codes and on board test information (aka read and clear fault codes)

    - Calculated Load Value
    - Engine RPM
    - Vehicle Speed
    - Absolute Throttle Sensor position
No need to buy an interface to check.

    cheers

    Hi Paul,
Thanks for that. I will still have a play with it. I also own a Jeep and can use it there. The other half has a sports car and loves all the gauges so I'm sure she will love to see all the little lights flashing.
    Cheers, Rick.
