    I would be very happy if there is someone who has a good instruction on how to do things and what you can do with a Hawkeye
    I've had one for a few years and are happy with it and all the little things it can do but I have never found any great information about what one can do with it?

    Diagnostic tools like hawkeye and nanocom have differences in the way they work and features that they provide but the important thing is the ECU's on the vehicle. Regardless of which tool you have it is the functions and settings of the ECU you are trying to access is that matters.

    Some of the best reference material as to which options are available are in the BBS documents which you can find at: ECU/Software Module Information System

    A couple of examples are the Td5 ECU:
    LUCAS TD5 DIAGNOSTIC (LAND ROVER) (SM010)

    And the SLABS ECU:
    WABCO SLABS (SM016)

    To flesh that information out you'd need to read the "Description and Operation" section relating to the system in RAVE. The BCU and Alarm sections of the D2 Workshop manual have very good information on the options. It's worth having a read through the owners manual - many of the features that can be set in RAVE are described as "dealer configurable".

    For the SLABS and especially ABS trouble shooting the best information is in the Technical Bulletins covering wheel sensor and modulator faults.

    For the Auto gearbox the best source of information is the PDF attached to this post:

    While the front page says Range Rover the PDF actually covers both D2 and P38a, and has extensive troubleshooting information based on fault codes.

    In the end the important thing to remember these devices are tools for retrieving information about the state of the vehicles systems. To get the most out of them you need to know what to do with that information. You can use them as a glorified code reader/clearer but that is only using them to a fraction of their potential.

    thanks so much for your response I have had great help from my hawkeye but like you say in your last line, it's that extra which I'm curious about your links have given me very good extra info

    What is extra is dependant on the modules. The SLABS module should allow you to check the inputs that the ECU is reading and output, and there will be utility functions to bleed and test the braking system and ABS Modulator.

    The Td5 module will let you read most sensor values as live data, program injector codes and the number of throttle ways, plus test various things like A/C Clutch, injectors, wastage modulator...

    Have a read of the BBS documentation I linked to as that covers pretty much everything that can be done. The doc's are written for the BBS Faultmate system which has more comprehensive coverage of functions than the EVO, and the Hawkeye is missing a few more than that so don't expect to be able to do everything listed.

    You should also download the Hawkeye user manual from http://www.bearmach.com/downloads.php

    This has an overview of which functions of each module can be accessed by the current firmware revision of the Hawkeye.
