Does anyone know how to read a .MAP file without me having to download a reader that comes with loadsa stuff that bogs down my computer and take hours to remove ,,, something simple that just does what it says on the tin and nothing else..

Depends what you mean by "read"...
If you just want to open in and look at the content you need a hex editor of some kind.
If you want to look at the map tables, and don't want to spend a 2-3 thousand euros you have one choice: td5 map suite
