    Nanocom issue with Puma

Howdy, had my Nanocom Evo for a while now, used it first time today as I have had an error code - P1103 - have removed the MAF and cleaned it then wanted to reset the error code - the Nanocom came up with a message that it could not communicate with the ECU. As a side note, my Scangauge 11 also reads the code but wont reset it, it comes up with "no response". So was wondering if any of you out there no why my units will happily read the codes but wont reset them telling me there is a communication issue with the ECU? Thanks in advance.

The Puma defender EMS and Ipack are both CAN bus based systems and the communications on CAN bus are very reliable. Given that you can read fault codes, there is clearly no bad connection or other physical connectivity problem.

Even if the fault were still present, the ECU should still acknowledge receipt of a clear fault codes command, which it sounds like it is not.

I suggest you try a Hard Reset.
This involves disconnecting the leads from the battery and shorting them together for a short while to drain any residual power and fully restarting them and then reconnect the leads and try again.

If this fails then you could try introducing a new fault by temporarily disconnecting something and see if that new fault clears.

If you still get the problem, then the only way forward would be to replace the ECU.

Hi Colin, thanks for the input. To update where I am at - I tried again with my Scangauge to do a 'clear codes', this time without the engine running. Cleared the codes no problem. The error code has not come back (yet) and hopefully wont after I cleaned the MAF. If this happens again I will follow your suggestion, thanks again. p.s. I will be replacing my vehicle battery in the near future so a hard reset can be achieved then.
