    Injector Codes ....

    Hello,
I had a re-map done about a year ago now car runs great but should be better while the head was off I looked at the codes on the injectors. I had supplied the codes given by the Evo. Well after checking the injectors the numbers are completely different not even a letter is right for any of them. So can any explain why this should happen please ?? No doubt the car is not running at its best.

Apart from pointing out the obvious that someone put the wrong injectors in the wrong holes or they put another set of injectors in without coding them

This seems to be a good explanation of the codes

Yorkie: How to check and change td5 injector codes

Also do you have the right type of injectors for the motor??

Eg. Black or Blue tops in a 10P motor and Green in the others

Ps Just read that article and it confused me even more

    Hello,
Yes they are the right ones green tops, my codes recorded on my Evo are completely different from any of codes on the injectors in the engine now not one the same (they don't change do they !!!!!). I did take the rocker cover off as I needed the codes for Jose of TD5 Inside to do the MAP for me. I do have a copy on my Laptop as well.
When i stripped them out I wrote the number on the side of each injector as I removed it, only checked them when you mentioned the balance I had a horrible thought that i stated them from the back to front and had look that night.
It was in a garage here in Perth just after I got the codes for Jose. Anyway I will have to sort it out, this could be my problem I have had.
    Thanks

The following is from a PDF on the Delphi EUI's:
    calibration Codes
When an injector does finally need replacing, Delphi's unique laser marking system ensures that it can be replaced individually, rather than replacing all six or eight injectors with matched units as is required with traditional EUI technology. This is achieved by individually testing each injector at the Delphi factory and laser etching its performance characteristics onto the terminal block. This data is then read into the engine management unit, providing accurate fuelling and timing characteristics for each injector. The same technique is used when the injector is initially installed in the engine at the factory, greatly increasing the accuracy of fuel metering and simplifying production logistics.
On top of their injectors is a five letter code. This code is used by the ECM to calibrate flow through the injector. Once again, each injector is tested after it is manufactured and is measured against a nominal start of injection point, end of injection point and an idle quality factor. The first two letters of the alpha code refer to the response time comparing a nominal injector to the measured injectors start point. The second two letters in the alpha code refer to the end of the injector’s response time. The tolerance band for the start and end of injection is ± 127mS (0.000127 seconds). The last letter in the alpha code is a measured variance in idle performance. The injector is given one of three idle letters: A, B or C to qualify idle performance.

The alpha codes used for both the start point and the end are not sequential, i.e. not AA through to ZZ. The codes have been picked at random to minimize the probability of intentionally over-fuelling the engine to enhance power output.

The code does not indicate that one injector is better than another. The code simply provides the ECM with a mapping adjustment needed for that particular injector, enabling very precise fuelling and smooth idle performance.

It is critical that the injector code is programmed into the ECM if an injector is replaced, or reinstalled in another cylinder to prevent rough running, and other performance complaints.
What the link in Duane's posts is trying to explain is the Nanocom's method of setting the idle performance code for the three different injector variants.

Remapping won't and can't touch the injector codes. The injector codes are a tored in a separate chip to the flash memory. You can actually replace the chip which holds the ECU fuel map and variant code and not need to relearn the security code, or reprogram throttle and injector settings.

The only way the codes can be incorrect are if the wrong codes were entered or the injectors have been changed.

    Cheers

    Hello,
Thanks Paul, don't they use the injectors codes written in to the map file ???? I will change the codes tomorrow. The injectors have been changed as i even had a photo of them with numbers in full view, for future reference, can not do much about that now !!!! so will change the codes and see how it goes. I believe that changing the last letter to an "A" does wonders giving a little squirt of fuel before firing to have better combustion.
It is a very good article explains it very well could even understand it. Will look at a new harness as well.
    Thanks

I'm not sure what Jose is using the codes for tbh, but they aren't written into map. The variant code will read the codes and use these to adjust start and end timing. He might be tweaking the injector calibration but that will throw other aspects out of whack so I'd hope not.

The Td5 uses preinjection regardless of the idle code - it's not something you can choose to switch on or not by selecting code A.

    Cheers
    Paul
