OBD2 Scanner and In Car App for D2

Have been seeing a few of these appearing in the market lately and thinking of picking one up. For some basic diagnostics and in car feedback on longer trips.

Statement on their website would indicate that it will work on a v8 2000 D2 - given they were being sold in the US at that time.

    OBDLink® MX Wi-Fi | OBDLink? | OBD Solutions

OBDLink? MX Wi-Fi works with all 1996 & newer model year cars and light trucks sold in the U.S., including all American, European, and Asian vehicles. Live outside the U.S.? Most newer non-U.S. vehicles are complaint with the OBD-II standards.

Wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to why it wouldn't work?

    Cheers.

Might work for basic stuff like reading engine rpm, battery voltages etc but probably will have very much less functionality with regards to diagnostics, reading / clearing fault codes etc. based on what I have seen from similar generic OBD-2 readers.

They have limited / reduced functionality because while the OBD-2 standards define how data should be requested and sent to devices such as readers the same standards also allow manufactures to use proprietary implementations and functionality which generic readers can't understand.

I think manufactures of OBD-2 tools specific to landrover have to figure things out themselves by reverse engineering how landrover have implemented stuff.

    Your mileage might vary.

Should be able to get both these for less than $30,,
Both have been around for many years,
    success is guaranteed with Torque,
a bit hit and miss with the other(many brands available)
you cant clear any faults with this type.

Thanks guys - as always the feedback and intel is greatly appreciated. I'll have a look at the Torque unit and yes.. am used to the cash gremlins hiding in the shadows.

Been caught out enough now that have decided to be more preventative than reactive.. let's see how that approach goes..
