    Hi Rob

I wouldn't give up on black box just yet. As they are based in Cyprus and a small business it may take them a few days to respond. All else fails the MD, Colin is on the forum here so send him a PM.

As to serial number there should is one on the sticker on the back of the unit which may be of some help.

I hate to say it but replacing the touch screen is probably best left to black box and it will involve shipping back to them as they don't have any agents in Australia.

It would also be helpful if you have the details of the previous owner to hand so they can transfer the registration of the instrument over to you. Otherwise you will be locked out of getting updates.

    Good luck

    Cheers

    Steve

    Gday Steve

The sticker on the back is the hardware number ,,, you need the software id to log in ,,,
    Bugga

from what i ave seen so far to get BBS to fix including post is close to$300 ,,,
    Thats a write-off ,,

getting worried about buying any second hand stuff now ,, i brought my discovery from here and the seller lied bad ,,,
Has cost me over $9000 in 3 months with me doing the work ,,,, so many problems ,,

Now the nanocom to fix the rest of the dramas is stuffed before i get to use ,,,,

Im sure 99.99999% of sellers here are cool ,,, i seem to attract the .00001% of dodgy ones ,,,,

Pity as i pay good money ,, im not a cheap skate ,, im not after No free lunch items ,,,,
    and still get ripped ,,,,,

NOT REAL HAPPY AT THE MOMENT TO SAY THE LEAST >>

The touch screen itself should be quite cheap. Assuming that is the only thing broken (ie no board damage) then should be able to be replaced here. IF BBS are willing to ship you the parts or give you part numbers to source yourself, then you may get out of it quite cheaply - Assuming BBS are OK with that.

If you are only getting the back light on the screen and no indication of some sort of image then I'd be concerned about more damage than just the screen. If you are getting some sort of image on the screen then it is likely all is well with the other electronics.

Let us know how you go and may your bad fortune turn in to good.
    Cheers,

    Im an electronics tech
i have vast experience in Transmitters ,
i restore valve radios for the fleet air arm museum ,

I have had many hours inside modern electronics but as i have had my pinky chopped off in a gun safe and a grinder go thru 2 fingers in 2001 ,, ( please don't laugh )
Then valentines day this year i took my wife to budging creek for lunch , I slipped on a mossy rock and dislocated 2 fingers on my right hand and broke my right pinky in 3 places ,,,,
So have a problem with small electronic connectors like the slip ribbon holders ,,, Also the eyes are crook as ,,, lol

but if its a 4 wire digi glass they are common ,, just need to fine the one that the ribbon comes out the right spot ,,,, then just a matter of aligning the screen with the software ,,,

There are loads on here ,,,

$20 fix is better than $350

Crikey Rob, keep those hands in your pockets!

You know what you're talking about, should be quite straight forward. As you say, get the right Part No from BBS and you should have it sorted in no time.

They stated they've had success in replacing the screen. I asked them to post part numbers but they did not reply, you may have better luck.

The screen part number is TSA0159 and I have four screens available.
One I couldn't calibrate (still may be OK), the others are unused.
