    Cradle mount for Nanocom Evo

I'm looking to mount my Nanocom permanently on the dash or windscreen somewhere. I know some have mounted them in a generic windscreen attachment, but are they any good? Most seem quite bulky. And are they reliable in the bush? That is, do they tend to fall off when experiencing a big bump? Also, is the BBS supplied cradle any good or value for money?
A lot of questions, I know, but would like to get this right the first time.
Note that I currently have a windscreen mount Gps to the left of the binnacle but this could be relocated if required.
A couple of pics would be great.
    Cheers!

G'day. I've mounted mine low down just to the right of the gear lever etc, fixed off the ashtray using BBCs excellent bracket for one and a made up out of small alum angle riveted bracket for the other. Good position as easily seen, out of bright sunlight and inquisitive eyes. I also used the right angled cable connection at the Evo end, shortened to save looping around before going into the UBDII end.
I sometimes also need to put a sunshade over it if the sun is shining in.
    cheers

Whoa. What a great setup you have Gavin. The only thing that bothers me is I wouldn't be able to see it very well down there as my eyesight isn't great and I'm quite tall.
So getting the BBS mount is worthwhile. That's good to know. Perhaps I could get one and use it to mount where you have your gps.
Will look into that I think. Thanks for your valuable feedback.
    Cheers,
    Alan

G'day Alan. Thanks for the feedback. If you make sure (like I did) that the Evo screen horizontally is approximately at right angles to your line of sight, you should have no problems with my location. Suggest you check before making a decision - it is a far more protected location. Cheers and enjoy.

I have mine mounted using the mount provided by BBS, just to the left of the steering wheel in my defender. Have had no issues with it coming loose offroad.

Thanks Joe and Gavin, looks like I'll be procuring the BBS bracket very shortly.
I'll trial the Nanocom in the location you recommend Gavin, and see how it suits me.
    Cheers all.

I bought the BBS cradle mount. It turned up broken, and dealing with Cyprus it just wasnt worth the effort to pursuit having it replaced. I can only assume based on this that they are low quality and not durable.

    Hiya All
If anything, the part of the existing Bracket for cradling the Nanocom itself could be considered as over engineered.
It is laser cut on a CNC machine from two quite thick, overlapped and spot welded stainless steel plates, that while making it near indestructable, does add almost as much weight and mass as the Nanocom itself, that all ultimately needs to be supported by the generic plastic (and we appreciate somewhat flimsy) windshield mounting arm and windscreen sucker mount assembly that we buy in and supply as part of the windscreen mounting Kit.

Sadly, we were unable to source anything more robust at a reasonable price than that we supply. But then at least this part is standard and readily avalible on the Internet / Ebay in many forms.

I have however, recently made some changes to the mounting bracket, which is now a vastly lighter, totally custom Aluminium clip on / in design that I have personally been trying our for a while now.

It is by no means absolutely perfect, and still uses the same windshield mounting arm, but by being so much lighter, is indeed a vast improvement and as such we have just adopted this as what will be supplied in future.

We of course constantly aim and strive to improve all aspects of the Nanocom, including accessories, and hope this is also appreciated.

I bought one of your mounts Colin, but I haven't used it because of the bulky, over engineered, industrial cable, supplied with the Nanocom.

Offtrack, a former forum member, made a couple of lighter and more realistic sized ones, with an improved right angle connector, a much better design than BBS's for permanent installation.......I'm not trying to have a go at you or your product, but I feel there is room for improvement in the cable design.

    Cheers
