Nanocom TD5 Diagnostic Tool - not toy.

Well, I did it. Purchased from UK Nanocom, downloaded the upgrade for the SLABS and proceeded to give Delilah the long awaited (3 weeks) brake overhaul she richly deserved.

The system works very well, even for an apprentice luddite like me. #2 son, a GMH technician, was surprised at its ease of use and the sensible arrangement of the interface.

Logged and cleared ABS fault codes after machined discs and new brake pads, checked the engine for any dramas (none!) and voila!

Handbrake gets her car back after about three hours work and play.

I'd recommend the system based on the saving so far, especially if you do things like us and travel to remote bits of Oz where LR has no support.

We've only explored the engine and ABS elements so far.

Cost delivered to us A$526 to the door ex UK. Time taken 7 days.

Saving so far - 1 code read and clear. ($60?)

    Cheers to all,

    Pete

Can anyone confirm that the Nanocom will work in real time to a laptop?

I have read through and searched all of the information available but it is unclear if the unit works in real time to the laptop.

As I already have the laptop and touch screen in the car, I would like to have a digital intrument panel showing in real time whilst driving.

Is this possible with no delays?

Nanocoms website has an email contact, got to be the best place to ask the question.Let us all know what they say. From what I read in their online manual it certainly sounds like it can.

Yes, it does talk in real time to the vehicle. I just checked. However I'm not sure what information you'd actually want? It displays switch positions and so on.. but it's all pretty dry. It has the display mode itself which has coolant temp, battery voltage, turbo pressure and RPM. Other than these 4 things I really can't see what you could possibly want?

    Thanks Captain,

That should cover the basics. I'm a little old school and I'm tossing up if I should have a row of dials or have a digital readout.

So I presume it's VDO v's Nanocom v's EMS. By the time I am finished it will be about the same cost.

The basic readings I would like would be coolant temp, Voltage, Turbo Pressure, Auto oil temp.

Additional readings would be EGT, Oil temp, Oil pressure.

It just depends on which unit provides the best coverage.

I have news about our Nanocoms

    Morning guys,

E-mailed with Iain from Rovercraft last week who told me the following (citation)

"....Hi Auke, our supplier is currently waiting on the cables necessary to hook the units up to the vehicle...."

I asked him if he could give us a 'better' time line indication, but as yet, have not heard back from him.

If anybody else knows and / or hears any more, please let us know.

    regards,

    Auke
