Fault Display Code screen thingy??
im just wondering where the Fault Display Code screen thingy is located on the S1 Disco (1994 model 3.9i V8)
i read somewhere that its located under the passenger seat, but i couldn't find it on my Discovery
Fault Display Code screen thingy??
Unfortunately full catalyst US and Europe models get this only.
We get nothing like that here.

The onboard Diagnostic display, it comes up with these codes:
Rover Diagnostic ("Fault") Codes
12 Mass airflow (MAF) sensor or MAF sensor circuit
14 Coolant temperature sensor (CTS)
15 Fuel temperature sensor (FTS)
17 Throttle position sensor (TPS)
18 Throttle position sensor (TPS)
19 Throttle position sensor (TPS)
21 Tune resistor (open circuit)
23 Fuel system pressure
25 Ignition misfire
28 Air leak
29 Electronic control module (ECM) memory check
34 Injector (or its wiring) - cylinder bank "A"
36 Injector (or its wiring) - cylinder bank "B"
40 Misfire - cylinder bank "A"
44 Oxygen sensor - cylinder bank "A"
45 Oxygen sensor - cylinder bank "B"
48 Idle air control valve (also check the idle speed and road speed sensor)
50 Misfire - cylinder bank "B"
59 "group fault" (it's either an air leak or a fuel supply problem)
68 Vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
69 Gear selector switch
88 Carbon filter solenoid valve ("purge valve") leak
etc etc etc
this is what it supposedly looks like:
can these be bought and installed at all?
I have pulled many 14CUX systems in and out of RR's etc, and there is no facility in the loom to connect these in OZ as far as I have seen.
It also detects way more than the basic engine management we get in this country. For example, we get no knock sensors, no Cats, no Oxygen sensors, MAP sensor etc etc etc
Like I said, US and parts of europe etc get the full emmisions control 'monty'.Thank goodness we don't. A nice simple engine like the V8 shouldn't have all this rubbish attached to it!!

i should of really explained my self properly at the beginning of this thread, well the main reason i was looking at all this stuff wasnt because i wanted to purchase a diagnostic display as such, my engine is running really rough (on 6-7 cylinders, and after i checked everything (timing, firing order, compression, fuel pressure etc etc) my mate and i discovered that the 5AM MAF has fuked out somewhat.
so he and i were talking and he was telling me about the megasquirt system he is running in his car, and how he can tune it himself etc.
so it got me thinking, rather than spending all this money on genuine parts and being robbed because of this, i was looking into investing the $330AUS odd into a megasquirt system and spending a weekend in getting that to run the Disco.
The only difference is that it runs a map rather than a maf so all i will need is o2 sensors and run a vacuum line into the ecu where it takes a manifold vacuum rather than a maf.
Good idea Eddie. A MAP sensor is by far a better way of talking to an ECU. A/Flow meters just offer a restriction and are frought with failures...O2 sensors are easy to fit...
Megasquirt by all accounts is the go. Have fun!

Just one note.....
You will find the megasquirt a great ECU option. But your insurance company might not like it....
If you dont care for insurance, go for it.. if you want insurance, you might have to ring around...
If your car has Airbag and ABS, then you will have to work out what part of the ecu needs this and keep it.
The Intermitent wipe on the rear window runs from the ECU also.
Yeah, i am talking about the 94 S1.....
The 94 update i had, had the ECU controlling the Airbag, intermittent wipe and other crap... ohh ABS ect....
Converting the ECU when the Airflow meter is the only thing dead is a bit radical.....
I'm wrecking a disco that will have the bits you need....
