Its primarily a diagnostic tool, with some reset features. It'll give a variety of readings, but there's no way of knowing if they're too high or too low. That needs experience in the trade, & some supplementary stuff. There are some threads around sharing readings, what's important & what to ignore, its worth printing off all those. For me its peace of mind when going bush. If I ever have a problem with the electronics - which have been totally reliable to date - hopefully giving the readings via satphone to someone who knows what they're doing will diagnose the problem, & facilitate a temporary/permanent repair more easily.Replacing say a MAF sensor or throttle pedal thingy at a country town garage has got to be cheaper than flatbedding it to the nearest dealer or capital city specialist.RegardsMax P

if your going to get it as a diagnostics AID and a reset tool Yes...

If your going to get it so you can do "my td5's engine temp climbed 1 degree above the nominal average specification today whilst climbing a hill do I need to have the pump bolt loctited, the radiator rodded, the injector harness cleaned out or has my head gasket just given its notice that it wants to throw in the towel" posts then NO....

The other thing is there is a chance that someone near you will have one and will help if you need something reset.

if you don't do remote travel that may be perfectly adequate.

From what I can see defenders don't have as much electrical "character" as do disco's so you might not need it that often

With total lack of Land Rover support and networks in Australia and good independent LR workshops in short supply, it is like gold to have one. I flatebed trip will more than pay for it.

thanks to everyone for there replies i do want it for diagnostics and i will be doing remote trips in the future and yes a flat bed truck in remote areas would be much more expensive than the Nanocom so thanks again.

They are worth about $400+ any extras that you need, e.g. software etc for the laptop you can connect to it from what I can gather.

I think it would be cheaper to go buy a 300Tdi Deefa than bother with one but thats just an opinion.

They were relatively cheap for a while but because of the aussie dollar craping itself the price has climbed apparently.

Do a search there is plenty of info about this site, dont rely on what I have said, I dont have one and I would rather buy spares and hand tools than ever have to buy one.

I hate the ones I will need to get soon for work and I think this is just another way manufacturers have found to relieve the owner of cash.

Nearly right on the price, but you dont have to buy the software. And the benefit of the nanocom is that they dont sting you for any update or changes. They are continually updating the firmware and adding functions.

You might need to buy a USD serial adaptor if you get an older model like I did. But otherwise your only up for the initial buy.

Check out the website - :: Nanocom ::
