Nanocom help clearing 3 amigos
Hi Folks
I just purchased the nanocom, registered and inserted the additional codes.
Can read and clear TD5 Engine ECU
Now the fun part, I have managed to read the ABS and identify a RH fault logged.
Problem is I have spend an hour over two nights to try and get the unit to read (only one ever success over 30 plus times) and never had success doing a clear.
Green light just blips one and then unable to communicate.....
Managed about two times, resetting communication settings (says this about 3 or four times) then working and unable to read.
I can use instrument mode and all good so signal. Is there any advice that I should try. as have tried many combinations and it seems that something is not right here. 2000 TD5 auto base model. Geoff

Do you have the USB model or the serial port model? The serial port ones were an early version and they had a different chip that had some communication problems. There is a upgrade available from Nanocom.
Otherwise, have you got everything right? is the ignition on? do you plug it into the port and then into the nanocom? have you entered the codes in right? Does it still come up with your nancom ID?
If none of this works, try emailling Mattia from nanocom. He can take a while to respond, but he does help out.

Okay, I have the USB version just arrived with latest software.
ID Code and additional unlock codes obtained and all work.
Ignition on and does the engine have to be running or just on!
I can appear to do a lot with all functions with exception of this one and I just managed to get a Resetting communication settings, please wait, then working... Followed by unable to initialise ECU.
I've been reading on net and it seems I'm not alone with this from posts a few years ago.
Is the ABS ECU located in a different location to the Engine ECU??

Mate, if you want, you can come over and I can check it for you. You should not be having such fundamental issues with the unit. PM Me.
Cheers

Hi Johann
Thanks for the kind offer and I just manged to work some success by trial and error and perhaps I have one of those 'landrovers'.
I found I need ignition off, power on nanocom via obd socket and select ABS disco and go to read or clear at the ready, turn ignition on and then hit command and I can manage to have a 50/50 success in communications established. Out of 5 times got communication and cleared the faults in two passes.
It must be a communication problem in the landrover side as the nanocom is 4/5 working then it can't be the problem. I did remember some RFI filters installed in the past so ripped all out of the the engine ECU ones out just for the effort. Technically these should not affect the data although I would not know the speed involved here.
If the ABS CPU is at a different location as found out, then I imagine the ECU would feed to the Engine ECU which in turn must go to ABS. Could be wrong here. At least the unit is easy to work, and will see what faults show up in the future to see if I have a bad wire to the sensor on right front.
Thanks Geoff

Geoff mine does the same. Drove me nuts. The problem I have presumed is a bad earth with the BCU/SLABS wiring. However there is a fix. Open passenger door. Open glovebox (easier to unhook it on the spring clips and let it fall open strewing contents all over floor)... Bend down and look up and left and find BCU. The Yellow plug (C0661) is I think nearest you. Pull it out. You will know its the right plug because a B with a line through it will start flashing on the odometer LED. Nanocom will now communicate with SLS/ABS with an ease that will delight you. Once done plug BCU back in and off you go (car won't start if you leave it hanging...) After a while you will have enough experience to reach up between the gap below the glovebox, locate offending plug by touch alone and pull it off without having to open the glovebox... either that or find the earth that's gone bad!
For reference (if you have Rave if not get it) p121 Rave Electrical library 99MY-03MY and p570 view of C0661

Panya, just did as follows and the nanocom works first time everytime without error with the yellow plug removed. Thankyou for this detailed information and I ma sure it must help a few out as well.
As a side issue and I must admit, I have been trying to eliminate RFI on the 80 and 40 metre ham bands and did all the filtering as suggested and some earthing and have had some success and the noise is injectors only. And this only confirms I have more work to do in earthing as if the engine is not running, i.e. alternator and injectors not operating then it must be the various CPU's that are isolated from each other (same as double earth TV and accessories) that may be contributing as well. i.e. the injector wiring is using the poor earth areas to radiate. None on the DC lines either.
I'll continue, cheers Geoff

Let me know if you find the offender I am afraid I keep thinking about looking for it but just haven't been desperate enough!
