The market has voted. The new defender has very broad appeal with very strong customer demand. Old purists would have course loved the Ineos but it’s too niche for Landrovers strategy I suspect and not where the profit is with current pricing. Toyota now hoovering up the segments with the 70 series where Ineos were targeting but completely missed due to overshooting pricing by 40% and missing critical customer requirements like payload and a service network.

Trying not to offend anyone here that owns one...
My thoughts are it is a bit of a status symbol, and being new many want one, just because they can, even at huge cost.
Time will tell how they go over the next few years, they are not really proven, and many reports in the media, social media, have the usual LR issues, although there are probably many that have had no issues so far.
No doubt resale values will be the same as any other LR product, not that great, particularly once out of warranty.
Indeed, Something new and different in the office carpark. Grenadier probably fits that bill also. It would be private ownership that tells the tale.
As above. When the lease and warranty runs out we'll see how popular they are. D5s have done that and CarSales have plenty of those in the low to mid 30s, and are they selling?

The question asked was "If Land Rover had....?"
Ineos is testing the water, and they have the capital to do so. IMO the Gren is not a competitor for the L663, OR the LC300 or 7X. Seems to me they're more after the D4 market LR abandoned, with real Defender nostalgia an added bonus. Time will tell, they're only very new to market, and have time to build networks. After all, Tesla had nothing when it started. Different market, sure, but it can be done.

Single opinion….
We had a P400 on order at the beginning to replace the D4
Then Ineos started.
We test drove the Ineos.
We cancelled the P400 order and placed one on the Ineos subject to final product.
We cancelled that order!
We rebuilt the D4

I've said it before.
Mercedes already had the vehicle, the reputation and the dealer network, both prestige and commercial.
So either Mercedes don't think the market segment exists, or they don't want it.
There were three FFMV G Wagons parked outside my window yesterday. Strip all the fire fighting gear off one, and I struggle to think of a vehicle that would be better.
I wonder when they will start to be sold off?
