I'm gutted. Here I was thinking that only a 70 series with Andrew what's his name could do it!

Mind you from where I live I'd have to drive 4800 km to Halls Creek before I even started! Just around the corner.

Or you could start at the other end as we did! Makes counting the wells easier.

Are there less wells, going that way?

There is also the Old Tele track on the cape, would you be game enough to do that in the Defender?

Last trip we did,up and back,on one of the creek crossings water was over the bonnet. Some of the others were almost over the bonnet.
I was never game enough to do it in the D4,but the D2a did it no worries, twice.Son also did it twice in his Puma.
    The 200 would be fine,Defender,pass.

Those Desert trips are easy as,just remote and many corrugations. And sand dunes.
Getting to the top of Fraser is probably more of a challenge, particularly if it has not rained for a while.

If push came to shove and the water isn't flowing too hard and is less than the designed 900mm after the bow wave at the side intake then no reason not to do it in the new Defender in wade mode because it can do it. Any deeper it floats!

Yes I would, same with the D4.

The 200 is just as vulnerable and I’ve seen them also parked up due to wet electronics after a water crossing. Same with D2s…

I’ve also never doubted the D4, just jumped in and gone. Long offroad excursions without a single issue.

The RRS - flew to Brisbane, handed over the cheque and just drove slightly less than 3,000km home in 28 hours without batting an eyelid.

I have no reason to believe ANY of these are more of less reliable than another from another stable.

Some when we were there were over 900MM deep.Others shallower, but then you come across a deep hole. With a well sealed snorkle you may be OK.
I don't know about the floating though.
Depending on how waterproof the electrics are under the bonnet.
Any modern 4X4 vehicle that stops forward motion in those sort of depths is in trouble anyway,no matter the brand or model,as water will get into the electronics in the vehicle.

One trip we were held up by a new Jeep that had stopped,in a deep crossing, had the snorkle, etc, etc,it was towed away.
Another an old 6 cylinder Tojo trayback, crossed up and bogged, water almost up to window sills, and it kept running through the recovery.

The D4 has electronic modules under the bonnet, from memory, on or near the firewall, with plugs on top ?,i was concerned how waterproof they would be.
Maybe i was worrying too much...

My D1 and OKA will do that, as long as there is enough exhaust flow.

I made NO mention any vehicle is more reliable than any other, and there was no intention.I was talking about deep water crossings only.

Facts are facts, early on some even got into trouble just washing the engine bay of the D3/4,due to water in electrics and electronics.

The other brand i mentioned has the electronics in the cab up under the dash, apart from the injector driver PCB,which is mounted high up in the engine bay,and is fully sealed including the wiring plugs.A quick search on U tube and you will find "experts" pressure cleaning the complete engine bay with no issues.

As i said,we had no issues with the D2a as well, in very deep water,it just sailed through, many times.

I think driving sensibly also is important, and obviously a well sealed snorkle.Luck takes a part as well.

As said, any late model modern vehicle will be in trouble if forward motion stops in deep water crossings,no matter the brand.
