I suspect that the market for novated lease non - commercial dual cab utes has some impact on the marketing, novated lease companies won't touch anything that has a payload over a tonne. The Current Land Cruiser has a GCM of 7010, towing capacity of 3500 and a carrying capacity of around 1200 (presumably with the factory tray, the Toyota site is a bit hard to get facts from....
Interestingly the last of the v8 Cruisers had a towing capacity of 4500KG but I don't know if the GCM was any higher. That capability seems to have vanished.

The latest models are probably the only ute around that can tow 3.5T,at GVM,legally, with no upgrades.Apart from maybe the large US utes.
Although they are a tractor to drive, but probably no worse than a 130.

DMW in Toowoomba are doing GVM upgrades for the Grenadier, they are one of,if not the biggest doing these types of mods, and have done for many years.
The amount of work, engineering, vehicle testing, etc that goes into these upgrades before they can be legalised is huge.

Have they stated max. Axle weights, be buggered if I can find them online.

Interested to see rear axle max. Weight to see you can actually tow 3.5 with the Ute loaded up.

My 130 can tow 3.5T at GVM, if I only put 1T in the ute, it can tow 4T

And it's quite happy doing so on standard suspension.

Whether it would be fun with a 300Tdi is another discussion all together.

From what ive seen the GVM upgrade on the Grenadier is literally just a spring replacement.

Probably for the lower weight increase, plus shocks and a few other mods to comply.Higher weight increases have a huge number of mods.

There would have been a heap of testing and engineering to go through before it was compliant, which often takes around 12 months.

Yeah for the 3900 upgrade, must have been easy since they havent even been in aus for 12 months yet and i doubt it was a consideration during Aus testing.

While not advertised on their website, there are credible rumours that Qld company JMACX is well into upgrades for the Trailmaster.

Some get hold of vehicles many months before we see them,as happened with the LC300.

They do mainly very expensive top of the range upgrades and suspension set ups.
