Thread: Ineos Grenadier, do you reckon it'll take off?

I certainly dont find the footrest a problem.

Seating position is very similar to a D2 but with more room.

Wide ledge on door makes great arm rest & centre console is at the right height as an arm rest as well.

Portals and 37's? If they ever come to Oz there'll be a few car park sprinkler systems taken out, mark my words.

Still, cheaper than a Mog.

For a long time I've thought that with all the power modern 4wd's produce, portal axles would be the natural evolution.

Last month on the abenteuer und allrad messe I did see the grenadier with portal axles in the flesh. It looks very nice and I even had to look twice to notice the portals. Since you get a bit more of an underside view when they prop the cars up for shows I also noticed there seems to be ample space between the exhaust and that "stupid" footrest. (Ronny Dahl on youtube bought one and has spoken about it in the past).

It seems to me that if they really wanted they could have done without it but one would have to have modified the exhaust in such a way that it would probably be either:

• very expensive
• no longer works as intended
• can't be guaranteed to pass regulations

I reckon though you can get rid of it if you really wanted and use heat wrap to protect that area from the heat. Mind you, a pretty expensive job on an already expensive car.

Regarding the amount of grenadiers on the road: The abenteuer shows a lot of new vehicles of course and there are plenty of grenadiers around. A bunch of Toyota's of course and some of the newer ute's that also grace european shores. However, on the camp grounds where people who have actually bought vehicles end up there is a distinct lack of grenadiers. There is the odd one out, but then again, so does the odd G wagen G63 AMG make an appearance. I'm not sure if grenadier produces sales figures but I suspect them to be low-ish.

For the fun of it; I looked up the total number of grenadiers on the road in my tiny little country (which taxes those types of vehicles into oblivion) . There currently 55 grenadiers registered in a country with 18 mln. people of which only 5 are not registered as a truck. There a 7 for sale and the cheapest one is 65.5K (euro's) for a 2024 diesel with 1324km's on it. The most expensive one is 120K (euro's) for a 2023 petrol fieldmaster (registered as a car not a truck) with 37k km's on it.

I simply can not see how one would ever be able to afford one

Yep.... You're on the money... The Grenadier is being taxed out of existence amongst other things because Ineos doesn't produce other models with lower or zero emissions against which to offset the BMW engined offering. Ineos is restricted to selling less than (IIRC) 7000 vehicles per year for example in the UK. Trump's recent tariff and the infamous "chicken tax" to protect US pick-up manufacture are further hurting Grenadier sales in (the large) US market.

Relating from personal experience, I’m 190cm with huge feet, and I’ve done 60,000km already in my Grenadier and have never had a problem with the footwell. Slightly over generalised comment on your part there.

Maybe something as simple as a spacer for the exhaust and some panel beating to the floor or cut and plate it, but on most reports from actual owners its a non issue.
