Another trip today - this time up to GG's 'Country Estate'. A good day out with mates just shootin' the breeze about all things automotive.

Did a calc on fuel use after last weekends run (all highway) and it turned in 14 LP 100KM which I'm
Pretty impressed by.

Somehow I'd missed this thread altogether. Congratulations Gav on the beautiful Jag, I've loved them as long as I can remember. Nearly bought one years ago, maybe one day....
There was a brilliant scene in the series 'Mad Men' where one of the partners in the ad agency, who has a complimentary V12 E-type as part of a deal with the company, decides to end it all, he spends ages with his Jag, setting up a hose from the exhaust into the cab, wet towels to seal up all the gaps etc..then the thing won't start. An ironic dig from the yanks at the pommy cars of the era.

Another sunny Sunday, another outing in the Jag - although today only as transport to help a mate get an engine back in a Kenworth. No point passing up an opportunity to cruise the highways and to keep things well lubricated and circulating.

Well I finally got the Jag back in the garage on the weekend where it deserves to live. Went to put the window down and the switch fell apart in my hand and springs and contacts leapt out all over the place! Closer inspection showed the plastic pivots on the switch are gone so not really repairable. Given the window was half way down, I thought I would be smart and use the passenger side switch - pulled it out and connected it up and pressed the up button - and this one fell apart too... (Insert expletive here about Lucas switches...)

So had to hotwire it to get the window up and now on the hunt for replacements...

British Car Components has been contacted and is looking for some as we speak.

Are the switches common with any other breed ?

As a former Jaguar owner, I endorse this ... Those times when everything works perfectly, the drive in the country, the zoom from the lights... seem to make it worthwhile.
I'm sure there's some sort of pun in here about virginity loss and holding babies?
But my bottom-of-the-range Freelander 2 TD4 is equally comfy, more reliable by bucketloads (after 9 years), faster off the lights, has almost twice the towing capacity, and uses half the fuel...

But... do enjoy, do enjoy. The thing with Jaguars is one thinks of it not as driving, but motoring. Grace and pace definitely!

I gave mine away!! He was going to restore it ( not much needed ) and SWIUTHTO insisted..... He never brought it back for me to see, come to think of it.
