    Peugeot Fiat Chrysler to merge

Fiat cars was demerged from the rest of the Fiat group a couple of years ago with the intention of selling it off. The MD has been pleading with other manufacturers to take them on as the alternative was to close the business down which was not politically acceptable. The only part of the group that has been making profits few the last few years was Jeep.

They are selling a few Ram trucks but don't know if there is enough to be viable.

They sell a lot of Dodge cars in the US. The Charger and its variants are highly desirable performance cars. Lots of them used in law enforcement nowadays.

The Agnelli family who once owned Fiat Group were very powerful in Italy. To stop Japanese imports it is reputed that one 'phone call from Agnelli Senior to the President was all it took.

In my Fiatallis days in a meeting with a visiting fireman from Head Office he was clearly informed that we could not compete with the Japs on price on most earthmoving gear and there was no point in stocking their excellent excavators as the Koreans were as good if not better and miles cheaper. His response was to get the government to stop the imports "like we did in Italy".
