that is really cool! but i question it only because I live in the flight path of Oakland International and planes fly over every 10mins and i didn't see but one plane in the area (including the san francisco airport which isn't but 20 miles away)...
I'm not sure if anyone has put a link to this site before. If you are interested in following aircraft, it's pretty good.
Flightradar24.com - Live Flight Tracker!

Another good one is Planefinder.net. They use the signals from the aircraft's ADS-B transmitter so only aircraft with ADS-B will show up. This includes most jets. The only common one I have not seen is the B767. The only turboprops I have seen are the Rex Saab 340's and RFDS PC12's and BE20's.
Yes, the ADS-B is used on Flight radar. In the 'About' section of the site it has a list of planes that can and can't be seen.
For around Sydney there's also this one (delayed about 20min) also able to replay from a set time.
WebTrak: Sydney
Used it a couple of times to track choppers around the area.

Webtrack will show everthing that civilian surveillance systems "see" but it is delayed, as Bushie mentioned. (Radar, ADS-B and C) Also interesting to note you can click on an aeroplane track and make a noise complaint!
There are a few of these ADS-B sites. This one has a nice layout. Thanks for the linky.
You can even buy your own ADS-B reciever and hook it up to your laptop. Now that's real planespotter stuff!
Thanks for the great site!
This will keep my boys (8 & 5yrs) amused for hours.
It goes nicely with another similar site for ships Live Ships Map - AIS - Vessel Traffic and Positions , which uses the same transponder technology to track in real time.
Cheers,
Chris
