In the early-mid1940s Qantas operated a scheduled non-stop service between Perth and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). Operated initially by Catlina flying boats and later by converted B-24 Liberators, these flights took up to 36hours, depending on wind strength. Payload was two or three passengers and several hundred pounds of microfilmed mail.
