I like the evening out of the the upstairs-downstairs syndrome. It all seems to be multiplexed and egalitarian.
I presume the unloading facilities will have double decker bridges and cabin persons on board with electric prods to keep the rabble under control on disembarkation.
"Thank you for flying cattle class and we look forward to freighting you next time".
First Class flys on something less conspicuous and retro jumbo.... maybe a bump on the top.

It would have to be a damn good emergency. Them hercs run off of stright Avtur as an emergency fuel. If there isn't FSII (Fuel System Icing Inhibitor) then they're up the creek without a paddle. As to the tanks, that's the first I've heard of it, but it does make sense. If you've ever had to transport aviation fuel, and know the safety requirements that go with it for the defence force, then you'd agree that diesel is nicer for the PEDOP's guys.Originally posted by damo
Funny that you guys should mention kero and diesel burners, didyou know that a C130 Hercules can be run on diesel in an emergency?
And when the army gets it new M1A1 Abrahms, we'll be running the 1500HP turbine engine on diesel?
The dieso shortens the engine life but then that sort of idea is pretty typical of our fish-bummed defence force!
1. I didn't know that about Hercs and I wouldn't want to do it myself.
2. The M1A1 Abrams we are getting are not new. Far from it, they are the usual USA cast offs they don't want anymore because (usually) they have become to expensive to maintain.
The government says they are paying $675 million for them, which is funny because apparently they were offered free several years ago if the USA could maintain a depot on Shelburne Bay instead of bringing gear for each excercise. One might be tempted to think, then, that it was another way of masking cost blowouts in, oh I dunno say the Collins Class sub. One would be tempted, that is, except that one trusts our government implicitly. (hands soapbox back again)
I did know you could run ABRAMS tanks off avgas or diesel.
Did you know that the Mil-24 Hind helicopter gunships (made in the USSR boys, you don't know how lucky you are etc etc) can also be run on diesel ? I suspect this ties in nicely wiyth the Hercules thing.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
