That has to be my all time favourite aircraft. It is a beautiful bird.VH-CWM Stinson SR-8B Reliant (c/n 9766)

C124 Douglas Globemaster taken at Bien Hoa 1966. A pretty large aircraft for its day although even in 1966 it was starting to show its age.
The Yanks had an interesting array of aircraft in service in SVN and despite it being well and truly the jet age, the Douglas skyraiders and the good old DH Beaver and Otters did admirable service. I have a shot of a C46 loading up in Saigon somewhere, but I will have to trawl through a lot of shots to find it.
Another interesting transport aircraft was the C123 Providor and the only one I ever travelled in had more bullet holes than metal in the fuselage and it was a wet stormy monsoonal day that particular day. I came out absolutely drenched after a 30 minute flight from Saigon to Vung Tau.
I am led to believe that these particular aircraft were originally designed as a glider and the engines were put on as an afterthought. I have no idea how true this is.
Last shot is the good old C130 (and an early one at that), my transport back home again. Someone will be able to tell whether it was one of the old "A"s, or one of the brand new, at that time, "E" Model. (I think it was an "A" as the extra fuel tanks were outboard whereas the "E" I think had the tanks between the motors.
By the way I am glad that this is in the aircraft section and not the photography section as my photography leaves a bit to be desired, especially in the 60's!

Glen

Sadly this thread does not have the planes that I like--Amphibians & Firebombers [better still Amphibian Firebombers.] I was at the Evan's Head Flying Volunteering to collect the Gate money for the Rural Fire Service [and for the airport organisation] in January, but of course I had left my Camera home. As I was Got to go through their Museum for free, and saw the F111 up close, and lots of flying Warbirds, etc. But I loved the Amphibians best. Will get back next year.
Have lots of Firebomber photos taken at Greybull Airfield, Wyoming
Converted B24's, Neptunes, Hercs , DC4's and other awesome prop liners
If ever there was a reason to visit USA it would be to go to Greybull WY, and its not even a tourist attraction. Unfortunatly the photos are buried inside a shipping container , not scanned yet. Their junkyard is a treasure trove of ex WW2 and 1950's freighters.
have you seen the film "Always" great A26 and PBY firebombing sequences.
