Restructuring Malaysia Airlines to sell long-haul jets - 4/30/2015 - Flight Global
Reading that MAS are selling there entire fleet of A380's plus some 777's plus 747's. Hard times ahead for them.

In the aviation press there has been some mention of the airlines having problems with the economics of running A380s - a bit big for some routes apparently.
it was interesting at the time that Boeing decided to stay out of producing a larger aeroplane and opted for improving their existing portfolio.
it appears to have worked as sales for 777's, 787's and new gen 737's are booming.
I haven't seen their order books recently, but I would say that Airbus would love to have a fatter share.
Emirates are holding airbus aloft with their A380 orders atm.
Having flown in it a few times now , I am not that impressed.....the aeroplane is still noisy and an older aeroplane like the Fokker 100 so much quieter and more comfortable.
The new gen 777's are also better than the A380 in my opinion, quieter and much more comfortable than the A380.
First class may be a different experience , but with all the hype about the A380 and it's upmarket bars etc, they are not available to humble economy or cattle class plebians.
Reading a follow up on this with MAS operations Europe.
A380 is not going any where they say on the KL-LHR Leg, its a fantastic revenue earner on that route and will be staying.
777 they have could be used but are very old and no one likes them, A330 they have can fly the distance, but not the models MAS have, so they have to keep the A380, plus its a huge draw card, most large airlines flying it are achieving 85%+ capacity per flight.
A380 Paris route staying open to the northern winter with a review then.
A380 orders take production on until 2020. Both Airbus and Boeing see there competing aircraft around for a very long time with new version's of both to fill a niche market sector.
I can't agree at all with your comments on the A380. I've done two Melb to UK trips with A380s & before that several on 747-400s & 777s.
The A380 is much more refined than any of the other aircraft IMHO, though there is very little to complain about in a 777. The ride is very good in the A380 due to their sophisticated aileron set up, & even in economy, I find them noticeably quieter than the others, particularly the dear old 747. That said, although the 777s I have travelled in (777-300ER) were pretty new, they may not have been the latest ones.
The A380's main problem is economic, as they need high load factors on long routes to pay off well, compared to the 777 which is terrific in economic terms.
Cheers,
Lionel
On the noise comfort front, take note of where you are sitting when comparing noise. Sitting way up front seems best in jets, just in front and next to engines high pitch whinging and behind engines lots of exhaust noise. Admittedly those observations are from 737s and 320s, but it's going to be similar on the big single deckers. Not sure how 2 levels will effect your noise, I imagine upstairs is quieter though.
Did MAS A380 to the Uk, no issues at all, the economy class rear upstairs, was very good, not that many seats, so felt more private, and they don't allow, young kids and babies, Bliss.
The SIN 777 are also very good. never had issues there, they even have a new premium economy class.
The most enjoyable was a Cathy Pacific 747 in to Hong Kong, must have had more leg room in those days.
The A380 is a very nice aircraft to travel on as I used to do many trips on it with Emirates and Singapore They are much quieter than B777 or A330. The passenger appeal is a big drawcard for the airlines who operate them.
The reality is they are a maintenance black hole as my son can attest, and also only economical on certain routes with high revenue factor.
As the airframes age and come off lease their secondhand value is going to be scrap price only due the small number of operators.
Having travelled on the B787 recently I will be interested to eventually fly on the A350 and make a comparison.
Several of my friends who are contract captains rate the B747 as the Queen of the sky followed by the B777. They all dislike the Airbus, but horses for courses as my son in law swears by the Airbus and is check and training on them.
