    Flying car a step closer...

    Or, "When I win Lotto"

But somehow, I can't quite see the Deptartment of Transport (here) or VicRoads et al, being keen to road-register it...

It amazes me how we seem to keep having these "firsts". Flying cars have been legally flying since the 1940s. That there have been less than about a dozen made may reflect that they are not very good cars or aeroplanes!

As legal restrictions on car designs have grown over the last fifty years, the design problems have become more formidable, and I predict this one will fade into history as well!

Agreed, how the heck would you build a flying car that needs airbags, ABS, ESP and needs to pass collision tests to be road legal? It ain't going to happen.

The control surfaces would be extremely vulnerable to even the smallest accident on the road.

The logical question would be...'Why?' would you risk your huge investment in TRAFFIC ??? The slightest bingle and the 'car' is not air-worthy...

But since winning Lotto is (almost) NOT going to happen, I'm safe with my dreams...

Maybe this one is better, not quite a 4x4 but very close. It can land and tank of in 50m, actually seen it to both in 30m pending wind direction. 21" wheels and 9" of suspension can see it land and smash over most stuff. At AU 100K and purchased as a kit plane its very appealing. Comes in just under 600Kg so RAA licence or perhaps the new RPL licence will do.

That looks like the Lotus7/Caterham of aircraft , a flimsy body on a spaceframe chassis.

Don't know, but I'd rather fly Australia in it with my bushwalking gear than drive it in my Defender. Not sure if I can, but if this bloke can land on what he does, perhaps I can do Simpson, the Kimberley, or some remote beach.
