    RAAF's plan Jericho, enhancements for the Air Mobility Group

    Big things happening for our C130J, C17A and C27 Spartan aircraft. They include an enhanced self protection suite, using the laser based Northrop Grumman large aircraft infra-red countermeasures [ LAIRCM ] system, Joint precision airdrop system, [JPADS], a precision airdrop capability which does not require the aircraft to over fly a drop zone, a SATCOM capability, and Link 16 tactical data link connectivity.

    The JPAD .Adopted by the C130J and C17A , and will undergo trials on the C27J Spartan. JPADS can be fitted to any container delivery system up to one tonne, using a GPS system and steerable parachutes, with the system being retrievable and reusable. During trials at Woomera, A C130J flying at 20,000 ft. dropped an 800 kg load 18.5 kms from target and it landed within 25 metres of intended impact point.
