    Flight equals quad Drones?

    Hello All,

I am not sure whether this is the right place to post about MJX Bugs 2 B2W Brushless RC Quadcopter - RTF drones?

The point of this message is that I bought a new drone and it does not work. Does anyone have a MJX Bugs 2 B2W and could help me get the thing working?

I have looked through the manual, also consulted a number of unpacking from the box to full flight reviews on youTube. All about how to calibrate the compass and interesting facts about GPS. Then which buttons to press to unlock it and get it to fly.

My Bugs 2 finds in Bundaberg .... zero satellites. Therefore, the horizontal calibration does not turn the green flashing lights to solid green lights. Then the vertical compass calibration does not turn the front lights to solid red.

When I press the red button to unlock the motors - they do not start and the propellers do not turn. Pressing the red button just gets a "beep" sound. It does not get the motors and props turning. When I press the take-off button immediately below the red button the Bugs 2 does not launch itself and hover 1.5 metres of the ground.

The controller is able to pick up and read the battery charge for the controller. However, despite being fully charged over 5 hours the controller is not picking up any reading for the drone battery. No bars appear in the drone battery gauge.

I have downloaded the Bugs 2 go application and I can take photographs and videos and display them through my phone.

I can even take moving pictures if I pick the drone up and take it for a walk!

I just cannot get it to find a satellite - the recommendation is not to fly unless there is more than 7 - damn seeing one being recognised on the controller would be nice!

Nor can I get the engines to start let alone for it to launch itself and hover.

I would greatly appreciated any help to get the Bugs 2 to do what it was meant to - fly!

Between my lack of success with the drone and the similar level of success with the glow plug circuit on my 2A with a Toyota 1B diesel engine - it has not been the greatest of days!

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Best guess isnthe controller won't let it do anything until it locks onto the satellites - which it sounds like it has an issue with. Not sure on that unit if it has an external or internal to the case antenna for this but could just be a case that they didn't plug the antenna into the on board control board when assembling it. Got any pics of the unit - I'm not familiar with them, I run all DJI gear.

How close is the retailer you purchased it off? Can you get help from them?

Also here is a forum with a section Newbie Section / Newbie Guide
    MJX Bugs 2 B2W | Quadcopter Forum

Forums are great places to get specialist help from like AULRO.

Ok, thanks. Not much to go on being of unit construction like that, so probably not much to be done other than contact the supplier on a unit like this sorry.

    Hello Homestar,

    Thanks for the reply.

I left the drone battery on the charger overnight. When I put it into the drone this morning and turned the controller on it showed an empty space devoid of charge bars. Oh and if you are the type to wear foil hats Bundaberg must be the place to be because the controller says there are zero satellites on a totally cloud free day.

No response from the motors once the red "unlock" button is pressed; nor any response when the "take off" button is pressed

Yes, I am contacting the supplier today.

For the rest of the weekend I will continue to enjoy myself by tracing the headlight, tail-brake indicators and park light circuits on my Land Rover 2A shortie so I can get the right lights to come on when I want them to. Hobbies are such fun!

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Yeah, somethings very wrong with it by the sounds of it.

I'm almost certianly going to add another drone to my collection soon - maybe with my tax return (although I said that last year too) - looks like the Mavic Pro 2 is about to hit the market, so probably that although the Mavic pro and now the Mavic Air are also certainly worth considering. Yes, expensive but I'm a bit of a DJI fanboy and have been using their gear for quite a few years now.

Only downside to the compact nature of these is limits of the weather as far as wind goes. I've got a big Hex as well and I can fly that puppy in very strong winds if needed but portability isn't its strong suit. 😁

    Hello Gav,

I had this faulty thought process... buy at the high end of the entry level to get good features like "Return Home". This will avoid exposure to cheap and nasty grief-giving products. So now I have a more expensive item that is not fit for purpose. I did do a lot of research to find the "highly recommended drones" for the price range. The MJX Bugs 2 did fit this criterion as it was in the top three recommendations from a number of different organisations' online polls.

Then again Ron does have a "the duds I have bought" type of thread for an obvious reason.

I will have to look up DJI after I find out what the supplier is going to do.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

I had a drone that was at the lower spec end of the market and it had a few parts fail within a month , I ended up returning it to the place of purchase and they were either going to replace it with another or I could upgrade it - which I did.

I purchased a DJI spark which is certainly not at the high end of their stuff , but bloody hell I am pretty impressed with it . I have only used it about 4 times but it seems like a well made piece of gear and I can see where the extra $$ are compared to the other that I had.

    Cheers Ean

Despite it being DJI's entry level machine, the spark is a ripper little unit and utilises basically the same control system as all the rest just with a few less bells and whistles which is streets ahead of the opposition IMO.

Having 2 drones with DJI gear (Naza M V2) and a third with more basic stuff and having had a small play with a Mavic Pro, I personally wouldn't buy anything else, but there are plenty od contenders hot on their heals although no one that has anything as good or as good a build quality yet - DJI certainly are the leaders in the field
