Thank you for that. What would they have done without R.R. ? To mobilise and train the hundreds, if not thousands of unskilled people , to fit into their production system was a magnificent achievement. Even down to the little things like hollow valve stems filled with sodium, for efficient heat transfer, and after testing the new engines, selecting some at random to completely strip down and check , nothing left to chance. There would have been many allied pilots who owed their lives to the magnificent Merlin Engine. And it's a prime example of how in a time of total War, those who man the production lines also serve.
