The problem with flights to Antarctica is your alternate is "back where you came from". They might have only had 750kg of payload, but they were apparently carrying 27,000kg of fuel!

Makes you wonder what it was meant to prove. They say it is to supplement the C17A, would it be case of the C130 with that load is more economical than the C17, with whatever load it takes down. I believe the C17A has parachuted using the new GPS chutes, in Antarctica. The military does nothing without a reason, especially if it costs money, and sometimes that reason may not be obvious .
