    The best low level attack craft built? The F111 would give it a run for it's money.

    Don't think the A10m was designed for low level attack at sea. Not sure on it's top speed or range either. But undoubtedly a superlative land attack aircraft.

    I remember reading a pilot interview a few years back, where he said that the A-10's deployed to South Korea in their rotations, sometimes train in the low level anti-shipping role as a secondary strike capability.

    Obviously they are not a carrier borne aircraft but there is no reason why the A10 would not be very effective in an anti-shipping role of vessels within range of their land bases. Look at the excellent results achieved in WW2 by the land based Beaufighter, B25 Mitchell, and P38 Lightning in low level attack and anti-shipping roles. The B25 in particular with a number built with a 75mm cannon and up to 8 Browning 50's in the nose. The B25J with the "strafer nose" had up to 14 forward firing Browning 50's which could chew a hole in a ship that a truck could drive through.

    Great looking plane - thanks for sharing. I had an Airfix model of one in early 1980s. Amusingly my 12 year old son is currently hooked on models. Building a Mosquito right now and I am off tomorrow to pick up a FW 190 for him. Might see if I can find something for myself while I am at it!

    A good friend of mine flew A10's. I remember we were paired up for a simulator session when he moved to Oz.
    He took us under the Harbour bridge inverted at 240kt. In a passenger aircraft.
    A hesitation roll on both entry and exit to going under the bridge.
    He's a highly skilled pilot, and I was sad to see him go back to the US with his Aussie wife.
    I never heard him go "BRRRRRRRRRRRRRT" when I flew with him.
    (BRRRRRRRRRRRRT is the sound the gatling cannon makes when it's fired).
