    Supplemental tethering of baby seat in FL1

    My wife (K) owns a 2000 Freelander Series 1, and we have just installed a rear facing baby capsule/seat for our 7 week old daughter (J).
    Australian regulations only require the securing of these capsule/seats to be able to remain attached during rear-front or front-rear collisions. This accounts for about a third of motor vehicles crashes. Therefore we want to install a method of supplemental securing of the seat in my wife's FL1.
    As a new member to this forum, could anyone advise of any techniques that have been used to secure baby capsules or seats against becoming dislodged during side impact (T-bone crashes)?

    I've never heard of a side restraint for a rear facing seat.
    We went through the fitment procedure during the ante-natal classes & had it checked by a specialist after fitment & no-one mentioned anything about side restraints.

    If all is fitted properly & tight, then there should be no sideways movement anyway.

    From what I've read, most of the problem in side impact accidents is head movement within the capsule. Get a head pad to minimise side to side head movement.

    Maybe I should have been a little more specific. The issue is rotational movement, with the fulcrum located at the point the child restraint is tethered to the seat of the FL.

    We have chosen one of the the highest rated seat in Australia by the joint NRMA, RACV & RTA (NSW) evaluation:

    We have followed the fitting procedure as is advised in the manual, the antenatal classes, and (as is recommended in Qld) had the installation checked by the Queensland Ambulance Service. Therefore we have fulfilled all necessary Australian and state obligations. But we are still left with a seat that is able to rotate around its fulcrum if we are struck from the side.
