    Buying Advice: 2004-2006 TD4

    Hey All,

Im new here and have some questions for those willing to listen.

Im looking to buy a new car (sold my rx8 a few months ago and have decided i can no longer live without a car)

Anyway, I have been looking at the 2004-2006 Freelander TD4's. Can anyone provide some input from own experience or stories they have heard?

I have heard some stories about reliability etc, so im not sure if I should buy one or not.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

The last of the FL1s are all TD4 autos and have a good reputation for reliability. There is not a lot to specifically check up on - just what you would do for any other vehicle - brakes, engine, transmission, tyres etc.

As Garry has just said the last of the FL1's are quite reliable, but unfortunately the bad reputation of the pre 2001 models had tarnished their reputation. If you find a good one that has been well maintained, do the usual checks that you would normally do when buying a second hand vehicle and you should have many years of trouble free motoring!!!!

The earlier petrol engined models were the ones that gave problems. The earlier viscous transfer systems also had a habit of seizing up.
