Thread: is this correct Holden engines in freeo's?

Looks like they have thrown an incorrect pic into the mix.

Holden ECOTEC engines are petrol and not fitted to any LR vehicles (from factory).

There also appears to be at least two different vehicle interior shots as well.

Freelanders have no relationship with holden - Honda yes (FL1 and CRV were designed by the same team and share similar design underneath) and Kia - same V6 but not Holden.

Not sure what the pic is - does seem to be in a east west engine though as you can see the firewall behind. So either cover from another vehicle or a pic of something like a Captiva.

Agree with Garry, although I do think a wrong picture is in the mix!!

It had wanted to get some funding from its business partner Honda but was politely refused as Honda was itself busy with a similar project that was to hatch the CRV. Rover was unfazed and after BMW bought the group in 1994, it launched the Landrover Freelander 1 in 1997 at about the same time Honda launched its CRV. The Freelander became an instant hit in Europe and was later introduced in the North American markets competing with the Honda CRV.

It was often said that the Honda CRV and the Freelander were separated at birth. According to various unnamed sources, this is not the case: the Freelander and CRV shared no development, although Honda were aware of the car in its early stages of development. According to a project insider, "before BMW took over from BAe, Honda had a 20 per cent shareholding in Rover Group, this allowed them to see the full proposed model range of the company together with technical details. Honda senior management were shown the vehicle some six years before launch and this allowed them to beat Rover Group to market". Sadly, because Honda's development strategies were not limited by budget (and were, therefore, quicker), although the CRV started later, it hit the market before the Freelander.
