    freelander 2001 engine rattles

    hi i am looking at a cheap 2.5 freelander v6 2001 model auto .they say it has engine rattles and jerky gearchanges can anyone tell me if its worth buying ??

    hi looking at buying a 2.5 v6 freelander auto its cheap imaculate condition but has engine rattles and gearbox jerks ......I can liken it pebbles bouncing around in a tin.can anyone tell me if its worth buying or not ?

    Personally I would not even think about a Freelander. To many problems which is probably why it is going cheap.

    I echo the above sentiment, but that rattle you describe is a common KV6 engine problem, loose intake manifold throtle plates. TRS in Adelaide do exchange modified intake manifolds for these. Easy to fit and about $ 50% of a new one
    Still, I wouldn't be worried about fixing it if you aren't going to buy it

    Knock from the left hand wheel.
    Very jerky gear changes, the same landrover freelander any ideas ?

    The jerky gear change between 2nd and 3rd (steptronic auto) is a valve in the Jatco box - common charactoristic but nuisance only. The jirk is felt more when the torque mount that stabilises the rear diff needs replacing. Try replacing that mount and see how you feel about it. Made a difference for me.
