Hello all. I'm seeking advice from readers as to what I should do with my much loved Freelander 2000 - 2001.
About a year ago I blew the radiator hose on the freeway and all but cooked the engine. I put it in for repair and 1 year later and $4,500 poorer it is ready to be picked up from the mechanic that has struggled with it all this time. I have booked a roadworthy, but fear that the 'pressure' problems won't pass inspection. I don't want to pass on any problems onto buyer, even with full disclosure, and it seems such a waste to sell to a wrecker. The exterior is in good condition and the mechanic tells me the engine has been totally re-worked and he is happy for me to (finally !), take possession of it.
I don't want to keep the car (I bought another whilst the engine was under repair), and I want to get the best price for it upon sale to at least recoup the costs of repair (the car was not under finance, thankgod).
Can someone please recommend a wrecker, or dealer, or buyer? Or what to do, what to do ? I am afraid I am out of my depth ...

try eBay there seems to be a lot of petrol Freelanders avetised with " Engine overheats don't know why ones. Freeland petrols don't seem to have a good reliabity its seems, disels less probs.
I know it might break your heart but they usually go up to $2000 with motor probs

SupporterOk - you don't mention what model - I am assuming a V6 being a 2001.
If it has been worked on for a year and cost $4500 - is it fixed. Why would it not pass a roadworthy?? Pressure problem? Is it not fixed - I am a little confused on the actual state of the engine now. If it is not fixed why have you spent $4500.
If it is fixed then the engine problems that existed before should not cause you any problem - likewise if it has been repaired I do not believe you are ethically obliged to release the information - however, the engine would have had to be reconditioned or near enough to it - so is a selling point.
So - if the engine is fixed - sell for red book price. If not - you will only get about $500 - $1000 for it at somewhere like a wreckers - similar on ebay etc but you might get lucky.

SubscriberBeing clairvoyant here but it sounds to me like it has a slipped sleeve which the mechanic didn't pick up .
Fix should have been 2nd hand engine from the start.
I hope you didn't pay the mechanic and if so wonder why.
Mechanic's responsibilities include correct diagnosis.
