Can the wires to the window lift motor go back the wrong way?

How is it working from the dash button.
Yes the key only works 1 way but it is the wrong way. The inner switch moves the window down when you press it up and vice versa. The window when down will lift slightly when you open the rear door just as it normally would when you open the door with the window up. The sequence is 180 degrees out.

Now you won't believe this but the Freelander has a mind of its own. After trying every thing that I could think of I decided to remove the motor outer cover on the rear window. I wondered if maybe it was on the wrong way. However the wiring cable meant it would only fit one way. So I replaced the cover back as it came off. I reconnected the cable. He presto everything worked as it should. Don't know what I did but maybe the wiring cable on the motor needed to be disconnected while the battery was connected. Who knows what happened. Just wasted 2 days sorting this problem out. Makes me wonder what the Landrover dealer would have done as they said replace the whole regulator etc at an enormous cost. Only cost me time.
