    TD4 what to look for

I have been offered a Freelander via a mate. All I know so far is it's the diesel so I guess thta means TD4. I have asked him to get details. So what should make me run a mile. I will be an old one as the price is extreemly low and I'm guessing it has issues.

If its a early freelander it could be a L series diesel. Both TD4 and L series are great engines. TD4 check water pump leaks and blue smoke on start up. with the L series just the normal land rover leaks. Also the L series could have IRD trouble as they were fitted with the ratio between front and rear to large. The Diesel Freelander in general are a great car

If it is a diesel and has TD4 badging on the back door it is a TD4 - if there is no badging it will be a L series diesel.

Also front turn indicators will give you a clue. Yellow plastic covering means L series and clear covering means TD4 diesel!! The clear covering was introduced with the update in 2001!!
