    98 Freelander throttle potentiometer

    Hi all,

I recently picked up a low km, manual, diesel, 98 freelander for a reasonable price.
I have since pumped possibly too much money into getting it right.

most recently a diagnostic readout tells me the throttle potieometre is at fault, I replaced it with a used part from triumph/rover spares but it has made no difference, diagnostic readout is identical and fault is unchanged. (throttle sort of wonders, when a gear is not engaged and takes longer than it should to decelerate when shifting gears, it pretty much has a mind of it's own)

Any Input would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.
    Alex.

Check your wiring from the throttle to the ECU. Do a resistance check in the wiring. Check condition of plugs on throttle and ECU. you may also need to check the throttle on test book or similar that it is getting a smooth and consistent throttle application.

Also check that the throttle cable is nice and free. Wife recently had a problem on her Freelander with the HDC light staying on. Turns out the throttle cable was not settling back correctly when foot lifted off pedal. Consequently the potentiometer was not returning to 0.

No cable on diesels. They are all drive by wire.
