Thread: Water in toolbox

Found a similar dampness in my better half's FL a while ago and put it down to condensation. I even checked thoroughly underneath and could not figure out a possible point of ingress. Has been dry since. Dry it up and leave the lid open, see if the moisture will return. Good luck!

Standard design issue in the FL1 - rain water comes in through the back window/door mainly when you park downhill.

Solution is to park uphill or in a garage - after 8 years owning a FL1 I have never been able to fix this - I have had grass seeds germinate in there. The funny thing is water gets in there but things actually stored in the rear storage area above the boot never get wet.

I live with the issue but have drilled a hole in the lower boot area to let the water out - you need to drill a hole in the carpet as well - must be special carpet because after I put the holes in the carpet does not stay wet and no musty smell.

I think is something you have to live with.

Ahhh... That'll be that standard paddling pool feature. Do you have kids???

As Gary says, they ALL do that!

If you want to try & fix it, IIRC there was a new rear door seal released which should fix it. On mine, I just used black silicone where the seal had split, as well as the gap between the roof trim & the roof.

Also had the same problem on the wifes. It was caused by me replacing the metal plate/bracket under the plastic trim above the rear door. Replaced because it was very rusty and left streaks down the rear window. However, the new screws I put in were not big enough to force the plastic gromets out. Consequently they did not fill the hole correctly. Next time it rained it poured in. Now fixed by removing said metal piece and filling the plastic grommets with sealent befor re-attatching the trim etc. No more leaks now.

I have that problem with my 2004 FL and I live in the tropics where we have torrential rain......it never rains but it pours.

I got rid of the leak by adjusting the position of the rear door window. No leak now for almost 5 months.
