    Unhappy possible dead computer?

after a lot of expenditure and work ive still got a dead freelander 1 (1.8 petrol, 5spd manual)

    got loads of compression

have spark thanks to new coil, rotor, rotor cap leads etc

have fuel from pump to injectors. but not getting thru to engine

possible dead computer or something similar?

when it died it slowly ran out of power over the last 13km trip home, and stalled out at every lift of the throttle and finally conked out and now wont start

I desperately need to get this thing going so I can sell it as its obviously a lemon. oh how I miss my old series 2B troopie

as always thanks in advance for any help offered, the people on this forum have helped me out so much, which I truly appreciate

To check if you are getting power from the ECU to the injectors you will need a noid light.
Also you may need to check the pressure of the fuel at the fuel rail. You may be getting fuel at the fuel rail but may not be high enough pressure. Could be as simple as a blocked fuel filter. Fuel pressure should be 50 psi

once again thanks Woko.. have oprdered a new ECU sensor, I found a lot of people with similar symptoms who solved their problems by replacing this unit.. if it dosent solve it then perhaps the noid light may be the go. I forgot to mention I was also having the probolem that my thermo fans were staying on for a long time after the car was shut off, which made me think that the coolant / ecu sensor may be "stuck" registering "hot"... i'll report back anyway

Yes it is in the fuel tank with the pump etc - there is an access hatch in the rear floor area.

I do not have a 1.8 but I do have the workshop manual - there is nothing listed other than the filter in the tank.

ok thank you muchly mate. they have inline filters listed for the 98 1.8 4cyl petrol models on ebay.. but ive just been out and looked and I definetely dont have one....

    ok next question...

owners manual says if the freelander runs out of fuel it needs its fuel system reset... so what sort of complications will I have with changing the fuel pump? or can I just remove old pump, fit new one, connect and start up?

sorry for all these questions but ive got no manual at all and am having to rely on all my tech info from here. never had such a finicky vehicle in my life.

The workshop manual just has the pump and filter (is with the fuel gauge sender) being reinstalled and does not list any bleeding system so I would assume is not required but I do not know.

I suggest as a minimum you buy the RAVE workshop manual from the AULRO Shop (menu button is at the top of the AULRO page) - I would also buy the Haynes manual from places like Repco or Ebay. The RAVE is more for Landrover mechanics who basically know what they are doing and the Haynes Manual is more for the dummies - the two complement each other.

thanks for all your help, very much appreciated

would rather not purchase a manual as I only want this thing running so I can dispose of it.

    thank you again
