Newbe to Freelanders with a few questions

Hello everyone ... I have just purchased a Freelander 2001 a few weeks back for quite a good price ... I have had to do a few minor repairs on it .... nothing major ... couple of switches, change air filter etc.
Since reading up a lot about Freelanders they have me intrigued and I have not been put off at all by the negativity I have read ... ex P76 owner from way back

... not scared of anything.

Question: I have seen a very cheap Freelander Soft Top for sale with a blown engine 1.8L ... is it possible to take out the 1.8 and replace it with the 2.5 V6 Freelander engine? ... reason I ask this is I can get my hands on a cheap V6 2.5 Freelander engine in good condition.

Since these cars came out in all 3 flavors I would think that this would be a very viable possibility without too many hassles.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry if this has been posted before but my searching has not found anything about this topic.

Welcome aboard to the forum.

I hope you still have access to the vehicle that the motor came out of. You will need the wiring loom and computer's, the radiator, engine mounts, exhaust system and the fuel delivery system.

That is of course, the motor can physically be made to fit into the body!

It will bolt in. Thats the easy bit. V6 freelanders only came as a auto, so you will need the gearbox as well. You may be able to use a manual box from a Rover 75/ MG ZT but will have to remove the diff in the gear box and fit the freelander final drive gear. But still dont know if the IRD will mount up to a Rover box. IRD cooler plate is different on a V6, so will need to be changed. Personally I think it would be cheaper to buy a V6 Freelander if you want one.

Thanks for the info .... sounds like it would be too much trouble ... shame because it is a very nice looking car with many extra features. 1.8L Engines seem to be very hard to find at a reasonable price ... I found someone who has a reconditioned stripped "long" motor but it's $3700.00.
