    Question Valve Body Rebuilders/Sellers - Jatco JF506E

    hello all,

    first post here so just like to say thanks for reading.

    i was hoping you could recommend a supplier or workshop, hopefully in sydney but worldwide if necessary, that could supply me with a new or rebuilt valve body for my 2001 freelander 2.5 which, thanks to this site, i now believe has a jatco jf506e transmission.

    my mechanic has diagnosed my love with a faulty valve body and requested my assistance in finding a replacement. i would be so grateful if you could share any information on this topic.

    Ask your repairer if it is the valve body or the solenoids. You can buy the solenoid separately. If its the valve body, Sonnax make a repair kit for these due to bore wear. Most automatic shops should be able to fit this kit or be able to get someone to fit this kit.

    If you get stuck locally, then A&B Transmissions in Melbourne should be able to help, either with parts or a valve body.

    Ive tried to get parts for these boxes before from A&B they wont sell parts, just a exchange box

    PM Bacicat2000 and ask who he used for his Rangie. He has a Range Rover that had a lot of auto problems and the repairer he used in Melbourne did a heap of mods to hes box. Im sure he mentioned that he had Sonnax upgrades done to the valve body of the Rangie. He highly recommends this repairer

    I rebuild these boxes, and yes the solenoid kit is available seperately, the basic box is the same as VW, Mazda, & Jaguar. Up n over here the solenoid pack is $600 US

    Be aware that clutch pack pistons were found porous on 2002 to late 2003 models and that a new re-programmed ECM was fcatory installed in 2004.

    If you are really stuck need a solenoid /valve body pack I have a few good take offs in the shop.

    I just replaced all 9 solenoids in my Freelander yesterday ... got my solenoid kit off eBay ... was easy to fit thanks to all the instructions I found on various forums.
    Now she drives like new again.
    My next task is to repair/replace the vis motors ... but that's off topic.

    Anyway if you are mechanically minded then you can replace them yourself if that is the problem.

    The way I knew it was the solenoids is that it stated to loose reverse gear ... you would have to turn the car on and off a few times or run through the gears back and forth to make reverse engage. Also at times drive would not engage but this was more rare.

    My Freelander V6 (2003) is not engaging 2nd gear when is cold; it is just reving and jumps straight to a gear that seams to be like 4th; also is showing F-4 on the dashboard (where was suppose to be the gear engaged indication - P-R-N-D-4-3-2).
    I'm planning to replace the solenoids too and potentially the valve body; do you know any rebuilders/sellers in New Zealand or close? I found only in USA and quite big shipment costs, or not shipping to NZ.
    For TIB64 (off-topic) I''l need to repair also the VIS (because of the well known rattling noise from the intake manifold) and I found this great post:
