			Fuel Burning Heater Replacement

Some earlier model FL1 have a Fuel Burning Heater installed. Mine is leaking a little coolant. Since it only works under 5 degrees, and that is if the sensor is working, should I replace it or just bypass it? I do think I can hear the noise when the engine starts and is turned off, however, so maybe it does work?

I am wondering whether the cost of replacing it (about $300) is worth it for the protection it might give to the engine, by getting it up to temperature faster and making those 5am starts a little more pleasant. There is little information available; other than it is valuable in the coldest places, and that they were not fitted to later models in Australia.

Also, if I do bypass the FBH, any ideas if this trips any diagnostics alarms? I presume it will not effect the engine mapping?

If you do bypass it, it will log faults in the engine ECU. Unsure if it will bring on engine check light. Saying that I have never seen a engine check light on because of a FBH.
If you do bypass it you can get the LCS code changed, The car will think that it was never fitted.
Not sure if aftermarket computers can change LCS codes, I have only ever done it with a T4.

Thanks for that Woko. I guess I will just see what happens! I'll ask a friend about the LCS codes... any ideas about whether it benefits the engine at all? It's hard to know when its on, to know if it ever has been!

There will be no adverse effects to it logging a fault right? Only if I like a clean log?
