I have a 2001 KV6 freelander that sounds a lot like a diesel at idle (100,000 Km on the clock). It has no overheating issues and goes like ****e off a shovel so I am assuming it is not liners or the like. From reading this forum I am thinking it might be a manifold issue. The opinion of the more learned members of this forum would be most appreciated. If it is this problem is it likely to cause me any grief apart from the slight annoyance of the noise?
yes more than likely the manifold butterflies, an easy job to replace the manifold, or you can remove it yourself and cut it open, repair the loose bits and plastic weld it up afterward. i have seen a few repaired like this.
