    Clutch Or Gearbox Issues

Hi, Hope im posting in the correct spot.
I have a 2000 Freelander 1.8i and am having a hard time changing gears.

When the car is off the gears change fine
The clutch has a small amount of play at the start(Normal) and returns fine.
It engages half way down but wont allow me to change gear until it hits the floor.
The Gears are some times hard to get into netural and to change, while 3rd and 4th and Reverse sometimes grind.

The slave and master were changed about 6 years ago and dont seem to be leaking.

Any help is apreciated and thank you in advance.

Well I took out the battery and the air filter unit and had a look at the slave cylinder and i found that the clip was still there but one of the actual housing locators was broken causing the cylinder to be on an angle and to intermittently not push the clutch lever in far enough, as soon as I re seated it the clutch felt easier to push and the gear changes were not to bad, obviously it needs to be changed but at least it wasn't the gearbox or clutch, fewwww a sigh of relief.

    Cheers

This a common issues with manual FL1s as the clutch wears down a bit.

Have a look at this post http://www.aulro.com/afvb/freelander...ad-gasket.html

It covers a whole lot of different stuff but start at post #18, then go to post #30 and then on - discusses changing the slave bracket as it bends and adding a bit of length to the slave actuator.
