hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
man might just have to go and test drive one myself!
Hey All.....
(Please dont ask me why/ how i got to do this - cause i cant/ wont tell) - leave it at....My 'Insider' got me this little favour!! :?
So, i got to TEST DRIVE ON AND OFF ROAD!!! the New 2004 Freelander that has just come out! NO BS!! 8O
Now, i am not a Freelander person (as i prefer the Defender, always will!!)
and all i can say about it is: BLOODY BRILLIANT!!! 8O
It is comfy, reliable!! (guarantee you that the 'past niggles' this car is totally different!!! and those past issues ARE GONE!!!)
THIS IS ONE SERIOULSY GOOD VEHICLE!! 8)
It can do MOST things off road that a disco can do! (slight ground clearance issues only - as the disco is higher off the ground!)
But, let me tell you people, it was driven by myself off raod in the Wattagan forast (in NSW for those outside NSW) and IT ROCKED!!
I REALLY did not think a Freelander could do what i put it through - and IT WAS PUT THOUGH IT's PACES!!!!
AND IT DID!!!
Many new features to offer the owner! and off road it is great and on road it is pure luxury - 'the Baby Range Rover' it is being refered to as!
(considering it was built from scratch - using the Range Rover as a deisgn base......it will not disapoint!)
Well, that is my wrap on it!! - (I probobly wont be online now until Monday) but if you have any questions, i will help you tou as much as possible on Monday!!!
Very taken aback by what this new one can do!!!
have a great weekend all!!!!

Well yes, the FL is a very capable vehicle as you've discovered, and as all of us Freelander owners already know.
However, the 04 is no different to the 02/03 V6 and TD4s, apart from a change to the interior trim, adn the new front and rear bumpers. The rest of it is the same as it has been since the V6 and TD4 were introduced. The all-new one is not due for a couple more years.
Good Morning All,

I had a quick look at one in the flesh today. Very nice. I'm not sure if I like the old or the new one better yet though.

The hype says of the Freelander:
"The 2004 Freelander offers urban attitude and eye-catching elegance."
I know that most Discoveries are also driven by people in elegant suits with urban attitude, but I am a little weary of people thinking that because of this they are less capable off road than a RR, a Defender or a Series.
A diesel coupled to a basic LR setup with a CDL, coil springs live axles and lowwww range and a 100" wheelbase is bound to deliver some impressive off road performance equal to the Defender and Range Rover.
The Freelander is bound to go places that most people would even think of taking it because it has heritage but a Discovery it can never be nor has it been designed for this purpose.
Call me touchy
